4. DAY-BY-DAY ITINERARY

  • Start Kilimanjaro Climb

    Start Point: Rongai Gate (1,950 m)

    End Point: Rongai Camp (2,600 m)

    Habitat: Rainforest & Moorland

    Meals: Lunch & Dinner

    Walking Time: 3-4 hours

    Camp: Rongai Camp

    After a transfer from Moshi or Arusha, your adventure begins at Rongai Gate near the Kenyan border. Following registration, the trail gradually climbs through beautiful mountain forest, where colobus monkeys may occasionally be spotted. As the vegetation becomes more open, the first views of Kilimanjaro's northern slopes appear before arriving at Rongai Camp for your first night on the mountain.

    End Point: Kikelewa Caves Camp (3,600 m)

    Today's trail climbs steadily through open moorland, offering spectacular views across the Kenyan plains and Kilimanjaro's remote northern slopes. The peaceful surroundings and gradual ascent provide excellent conditions for acclimatization. By late afternoon, you arrive at Kikelewa Caves Camp, where you can relax and prepare for the next stage of your climb.

    End Point: Mawenzi Tarn Camp (4,330 m)

    Habitat: Alpine Desert

    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

    Walking Time:  3-4 hours

    Camp: Mawenzi Tarn Camp

    Today's shorter trek leads into the alpine desert beneath the towering spires of Mawenzi Peak. As you gain altitude, the landscape becomes increasingly rugged before reaching Mawenzi Tarn Camp, one of Kilimanjaro's most scenic camps. The afternoon is reserved for rest and acclimatization while enjoying breathtaking views of the surrounding mountain scenery.

    Start Point: Mawenzi Tarn Camp (4,330 m)

    End Point: Mawenzi Tarn Camp (4,330 m)

    Habitat: Alpine Desert

    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

    Walking Time:  2-3 hours

    Camp: Mawenzi Tarn Camp

    Today is dedicated to acclimatization, giving your body valuable time to adjust to the increasing altitude. Together with your guide, you will enjoy a short hike on the slopes of Mawenzi Peak before returning to camp for lunch and a relaxed afternoon. This additional day greatly improves acclimatization and significantly increases your chances of reaching Uhuru Peak successfully.

  • Barranco Wall Mount Kilimanjaro

    Start Point: Mawenzi Tarn Camp (4,330 m)

    End Point: Kibo Hut Campsite (4,700 m)

    Habitat: Alpine Desert

    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

    Walking Time:  7–9 hours

    Camp: Kibo Hut Campsite

    Leaving the dramatic surroundings of Mawenzi behind, today's route crosses the vast Saddle, a dramatic alpine desert stretching between Mawenzi and Kibo Peaks. The barren landscape offers a striking contrast to the lush vegetation of previous days. After arriving at Kibo Hut Campsite, enjoy an early dinner and rest for a few hours before your midnight summit attempt.

    Start Point: Kibo Hut Campsite (4,700 m)

    End Point: Horombo Hut Campsite (3,720 m)

    Habitat: Arctic Zone & Alpine Desert

    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

    Walking Time:  10–14 hours

    Camp: Horombo Hut Campsite

    Around midnight, the summit ascent begins under a sky filled with stars. Guided by headlamps, you make your way towards Gilman's Point before continuing along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 5,895 metres. After celebrating this remarkable achievement and taking in the breathtaking views, the descent begins back to Kibo Hut Campsite for a short rest. The journey then continues down to Horombo Hut Campsite, where a well-earned night's sleep awaits.

    Start Point: Horombo Hut Campsite (3,720 m)

    End Point: Moshi or Arusha

    Habitat: Rainforest

    Meals: Breakfast & Lunch

    Walking Time:  5-7 hours

    Before leaving camp, there is time to celebrate your achievement together with the mountain crew. This is also the moment to thank the team and present the tips they have worked so hard to earn. The trail then descends through the lush rainforest to Marangu Gate, where summit certificates are awarded before the transfer to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha.
