Mount Meru.jpg

Mount Meru is Tanzania’s second-highest mountain, rising to an altitude of 4,566 meters (14,980 feet) above sea level, and one of the country’s most rewarding trekking destinations.

Located within Arusha National Park, this striking volcanic peak offers dramatic landscapes, lush forests and sweeping views across the surrounding plains.

Less crowded than Kilimanjaro, Mount Meru provides a more intimate trekking experience with opportunities to encounter wildlife such as giraffes, buffaloes and colobus monkeys along the lower slopes.

The climb is challenging yet achievable, culminating in breathtaking summit views — including Mount Kilimanjaro on clear mornings. It is also an excellent acclimatization trek for those preparing to tackle Africa’s highest peak.

best time to visit

The best months to climb Mount Meru are from June to October and December to February, when trails are dry and views are clear.

Rainy seasons (April–May and November) can make trekking more difficult.
