Lake Natron is one of Tanzania’s most remote and striking destinations, located deep within the Great Rift Valley at the foot of the active volcano Ol Doinyo Lengai. Its mineral-rich waters and dramatic volcanic surroundings create a unique and powerful landscape.

The area is best known as the most important breeding ground for lesser flamingos in East Africa, with large numbers gathering along the lake’s shallow shores. Vast open plains, lava fields and escarpments dominate the scenery, offering a strong sense of space and isolation.

Surrounded by Maasai land and far from the main safari routes, Lake Natron offers an authentic off-the-beaten-track experience. A visit here reveals a different side of Tanzania, where raw nature, wildlife and culture come together in a truly remote setting.
